About Us / Introduction
Since mid-2014 a group of close to 500 international-minded business and community leaders, opinion leaders, academics, entrepreneurs, bankers, fund managers, corporate executives, professionals and students have been working together to form and build Hong Kong-ASEAN Economic Cooperation Foundation (HKAECF) which is a pro bono, non-profit, non-political, private-sector and non-government organization (NGO) aimed at fostering, promoting and facilitating economic cooperation between Hong Kong and the 10 member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and between the ASEAN region and the People’s Republic of China (PRC) with Hong Kong serving as a high value-adding and facilitating key international hub, bridge, connector, promotor and investor. HKAECF’s Honourary Legal Counsel (P.C. Woo & Co. law firm) is helping to prepare an application for charitable status for HKAECF which welcomes both individual and corporate members (and no membership fees are required) who are interested in business and investment opportunities and in building economic cooperation relations in the ASEAN region. Crowe Horwath serves as HKAECF’s Honourary Auditor. HKAECF was formally formed on May 21, 2015 in Hong Kong.
Through its international networking and exchange events/activities and through its promotion and facilitation of the carrying out and the sharing of results of ASEAN-related research, HKAECF expects to add to Hong Kong’s important role in the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road (“Belt and Road”) policy initiative of the PRC and to facilitate the seizing of the many regional development opportunities ahead for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). Through its people-to-people diplomacy and constructive policy advocacy activities, HKAECF also hopes to support HKSAR’s membership in the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).
As part of a pro bono community service NGO, HKAECF members are invited from time to time to join various events/activities involving ASEAN region economic cooperation opportunities and relations and ASEAN-related research.
